At Penrod Leather, every item produced is created entirely by John and Heather. All leather is cut by hand and each stitching hole is individually punched. All our items are hand-stitched, and burnished by hand. We are intimately acquainted with each piece we make, as the hand-building process demands inspection at every stage. Instead of investing money in machinery which would increase our production rate, we have chosen to invest time into our craft, to ensure that everything we make meets our own exacting standards. Exceptional quality is the foundation of our company and the driving force behind all our decisions, whether it’s which materials to purchase or the best way to serve our customers.

JOHN K. PENROD

Originally from Atlanta GA, John is an engineer who brings his design skills and creativity to leatherwork. John takes on all our pattern development, as well as all of our tooling work. We recently acquired a laser engraver, and he is experimenting with how best to use it for leatherwork. If you want an item re-creating, or a pattern adapting, John is your man!

Penrod Leather's History

Penrod Leather was born of John's desire to find a creative outlet that complements detailed and analytical engineering work. Having a deep appreciation for quality material, craftsmanship, and handmade goods, leather drew John in.  He began working with leather in 2016 and during the pandemic found it an important mental health tool from the stress of work and lockdown. An unexpected side effect of John's leather work was the amount of "scrap" leather left over at the end of projects. Not wanting to see it go to waste, Heather began turning this into leather earrings. Finding that she too enjoyed the creative process of working with leather, Heather now makes all kinds of leather projects for Penrod Leather.

At Penrod Leather, we believe that attention to detail is essential in both materials and craftsmanship. People work hard and deserve quality that will last their lifetime along with the uniqueness that handcrafted items offer. Like life, leather ages beautifully. The touch, smell, and even the scars carry memories that can touch deeply and bring joy for your lifetime and beyond.
